Err I kow a little bit about nyan cat. There's this computer program (japanese thingy) and the song was created with that. Then some other person made the GIF. and put it together. That's how nyan cat has been created. It's just very addicting to listen to!

It makes all sense now, the rainbow, the pop tart, the cat looking thing, the strange hypnotic music, their all mind triggers to put all of us in a strange state of mind.
